In My Makeup Bag

In My Makeup Bag: September 2013

I have a love/hate relationship with September. It signifies the end of summer, the start of a new school year (or in my case, my last year of university. Scary!) and the beginning of colder weather. Then again, it’s also the time when I get excited about wearing scarves, boots and jackets and burgundy nail polish, not to mention the new beauty releases from so many brands that are coming up. Here’s a look at what’s going in my beauty bag:

Although I do prefer a heavier base as we ease into autumn and winter, I still like my skin to glow and feel light whilst still having the right amount of coverage. This new release from Bourjois is the perfect mix. It has medium coverage yet still allows my ‘real’ skin to come through and gives such a gorgeous, luminous glow to the skin. It’s not available until late September/October but it’s definitely worth the wait! Those new releases I mentioned above? This is one to get excited about.
Another great thing about approaching autumn is that it’s time to crank up the eyeshadow and embrace smokey eyes (when am I not embracing smokey eyes?) I’m never usually a one for very glittery eyeshadows but this offering from Urban Decay is fantastic. The colour pigment is as impressive as you would think from Urban Decay and the silver glitter never looks too dramatic or tacky. It actually gives the appearance of ‘wet’ eyeshadow which I love.
True story: I rang my brother who was 4,000 miles away in America and asked him to bring me back one of these little pots because they’re just that good. I know, two eyeshadows in similar shades seems a bit excessive but I promise there’s an explanation. I’ve been going easy on my eyes over the summer; I’ve ditched eyeliner completely, eased up on the mascara and have been happy with a light swipe of colour on my lids. Autumn, however, will be a different story. It’s the perfect season to start playing up the eyes and upping the drama. These L’Oréal Infallible shadows are just incredible.
As the temperatures begin to drop, my skin tends to lose moisture. Instead of using a powder blush that will just sit on the surface of my skin, I love cream blushes for their consistency and for giving my skin the vital moisture and glow that it needs (and applied with a Real Techniques Stippling Brush of course…)
I love nothing more than a darker, richer coloured nail in the Autumn. Although I’m tempted to break out my Chanel Taboo Nail Polish, I decided to ease into darker nails and have opted for a classic red. This one from Nails Inc has become one of my favourite reds and the formula is so long-lasting.
